10 Beautiful Places to Visit in Hunza

What to Expect in Hunza Valley?

What makes Hunza Valley so fascinating? One of the interesting stories connected with this region is its association with James Hilton’s famous novel Lost Horizon. The beautiful and peaceful landscape of Hunza is often linked with the idea of Shangri-La, a fictional paradise described in the book.

Today, however, Hunza is far from being an undiscovered destination. The Karakoram Highway (KKH) has made the region much more accessible to travelers. The highway is also an important route connecting China with Pakistan and the Arabian Sea through Gwadar, and major investments have helped improve transportation links in this remote part of the country.

The quiet and mysterious atmosphere that once surrounded Hunza has changed considerably. During the summer months, the valley welcomes large numbers of Pakistani and international visitors. Tourism has grown rapidly over the past several years, although the industry experienced a temporary slowdown during the COVID-19 pandemic.

For local communities, tourism has created new opportunities and contributed to economic growth. Hotels, restaurants, transport services, tour operators, and other small businesses have benefited from the increasing number of visitors. Despite the changes brought by tourism, Hunza continues to attract travelers with its spectacular mountains, green valleys, rich culture, and welcoming communities.
